I've been doing some thinking about copyrights, and patents. My thoughts are that copyrights and patents are starving out inovation and invention. If you listen to the concerns of small business venturing into new areas of technological innovation, you often hear of their concern with being sued after they have spent much time and effort into their designs. If I were to create a software company right now, that would be a big concern. I wouldn't be concerned with trying to go out and sue someone for violating my copyright or patent (I just wouldn't have the time nor money to do so), but I would be concerned with someone trying to sue me for it.
I believe that copyrights and patents only benefit large corporations and lawyers. Large corporations hire armies of lawyers to scout out for violators of their intellectual property. A small company cannot afford to do the same. They also cannot afford to defend what intellectual property they do own.
