The Aggie Spirit is alive and well

I am never more proud of my alma mater than at the times of crisis when tens of thousands students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Texas A&M join together to offer their help. I saw it personally on the days after September 11, I saw it also after the bonfire tragedy. Today, I read about it again.

I know we are dealing with an immense tragedy. A tragedy that is in parts natural and in many parts man-made. I know the power and devastation of the hurricane should not be devalued. I also know that the ignorance and in-action of mankind to act in the face of such overwhelming trouble is also not to be devalued.

When you see people act, and act in such a giving and self-sacrificing manor it is to be applauded. Especially when you see people break out of their mold, and act and do things in ways they are not accustomed.

These are no hollow words and no empty promises, these are actions taken by students and faculty. While our leadership wallows in self-pity and denial, it is good to see the people taking up the slack and helping their fellow man. I personally am proud to see my fellow Aggies doing exactly that.
